Meghan Markle's Career Opportunity in the UK
Meghan Markle was presented with a significant role in the UK prior to meeting Prince Harry. In a revealing conversation on Hello!'s A Right Royal Podcast, a former friend of the Duchess of Sussex, Nick Ede, discussed how Meghan explored various acting opportunities in the UK.
Nick shared insights about Meghan's ambitions during her tenure on the show Suits. "We actually became pretty good friends, we spent a lot of time together. She asked me to find her an agent. At the time she was going to be on Suits, she had three or four months where she could kind of do what she wanted to do," he recounted.
Pursuing the West End
Ede noted that Meghan was eager to follow in the footsteps of other celebrities who transitioned into the West End. "She'd seen other celebrities go into the West End and offer them a short run. So she wanted to do that. So I took her around to see some agents."
However, the experience was less than favorable when they met with one particular agent. Nick humorously described the agent's dismissive attitude: "I won't name the agent who we took her to, but he was very pompous and he turned around to her and he said, 'Ah, I can't really imagine you on the West End stage, but you know David Hasselhoff?'"
This agent suggested that Meghan might be better suited for pantomime, which she found less than encouraging.
A Friendship Through Adversity
Reflecting on their friendship, Nick mentioned that they lost touch over time, jokingly stating, "I got the Piers Morgan treatment in the end." However, he noted that they reconnected during a challenging period for Meghan. "But actually, we were messaging each other when she felt pretty bullied and Prince Harry put out that statement. We were messaging each other and I said, 'Look, I'm really glad you've got somebody who's actually supporting you.' She was like, 'that really means a lot.' Our friendship was a genuinely good friendship."
Currently, Meghan Markle is making waves with her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which has garnered mixed reviews from audiences.
