Job Description

Posted on: April 16, 2025

We are a growing, down-to-earth HR consultancy supporting a diverse range of clients across Northern Ireland, the UK, and ROI. Our clients range from small, owner-managed businesses to larger organisations in hospitality, professional services, healthcare, and education.

We don’t do HR for the sake of ticking boxes—we provide practical, business-focused solutions that help our clients manage their people effectively. Our clients see us as trusted HR partners, not just advisors.

As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a proactive and confident HR Consultant to join our team. If you thrive on varied work, enjoy working independently, and love building strong client relationships, this role is for you.

About the Role

The HR Consultant will provide pragmatic, commercial, and hands-on HR support to a portfolio of clients, working across a mix of day-to-day HR queries and project-based work such as disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, training, and restructuring.

You’ll be the go-to person for HR advice while also helping businesses navigate challenges, improve processes, and stay compliant with employment law.

What would you be doing...

  • Be the first point of contact for HR advice, guiding clients on absence management, disciplinaries, grievances, performance, and recruitment.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring their queries are handled professionally and efficiently.
  • Draft HR documents including contracts, policies, letters, and handbooks—making sure they’re both compliant and practical.
  • Support investigations, disciplinaries, restructures, and consultations, helping clients handle sensitive issues correctly.
  • Review and update HR policies to keep businesses compliant with NI, UK, and ROI employment law (we’ll help keep you up to date!).
  • Keep clear records of client interactions, ensuring smooth handovers when needed.
  • Attend client meetings or hearings (virtually or in person, depending on need).
  • Spot opportunities to add value—whether it’s recommending training, updating contracts, or introducing Breathe HR software.
  • Deliver training sessions (virtual or in-person) and support employee engagement initiatives to help businesses build strong teams.
  • Work alongside senior consultants to support larger clients where needed.

Must Haves – Essentials Experience & Qualifcations

  • Minimum 3+ years in a generalist HR advisory role, where you’ve been hands-on with real business challenges.
  • Proven experience advising line managers on absence, disciplinaries, grievances, and performance. You know how to give solid, business-focused HR advice that keeps things fair and compliant.
  • Case management – You’ve handled HR cases from start to finish, ensuring everything is managed smoothly, ethically, and in line with employment law.
  • CIPD qualified (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of NI/UK employment law

This role will require occasional attendance at clients sites many of which are around the greater Belfast/County Down area, therefore being within a reasonable commuting distance with access to a car which can be used for business purposes will be required

Must Haves - Key Skills & Competencies

  • A solid spud – Down-to-earth, reliable, and a genuinely good human. Someone who fits into our team culture and gets on well with clients.
  • People person – Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with clients quickly and keep interactions both professional and engaging.
  • Sharp with words & detail-focused – Strong written communication skills with great attention to detail. Confident in drafting contracts, policies, and letters that are both clear and legally sound.
  • Organised but adaptable – Able to juggle a varied and reactive workload, keeping cool when things shift unexpectedly.
  • Independent Self Starter but a team player – Self-motivated and proactive, but also enjoys collaborating with colleagues and sharing knowledge.
  • Tech-savvy (ish) – Comfortable using Microsoft 365 and cloud-based systems (you don’t need to be an IT wizard, just happy to learn!).
  • Client-focused & approachable – Professional yet down-to-earth. Able tomanage a range of stakeholders, from first-time business owners to HR pros.
  • Quick on your feet – Able to take initiative, adapt to changing priorities, and bring creative solutions to client challenges.
  • Commercially aware – Understands the realities of working with SMEs— a problem solver not just a policy enforcer, you are able to balance compliance with practical, business-focused HR advice.

Nice to Haves – Desirables

  • Happy to be on camera & social media – Comfortable jumping on TikTok, Linkedin or Instagram to help promote EVOLVE, whether that’s sharing HR insights or just having a bit of craic.
  • Experience giving employment law adviceor advising on Health & Safety – having advised directly on these things.
  • HR consultancy/outsourced HR experience – working with multiple clients across different sectors.
  • Training delivery experience – particularly for managers and leaders.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Employment Law & Practice (or equivalent)or Qualification in Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of ROI employment law – Not essential, but if you can navigate Irish employment law, that’s a great bonus.
